To promote the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) among students and the community, the State Health Agency (SHA) of Andaman and Nicobar Islands organized orientation-cum-awareness programmes at Gram Panchayat, Pokkadera, and Government Model Senior Secondary School, Pokkadera, Mayabunder on July 19 and 21, 2025, respectively.

The programmes aimed to educate the public and students about the key features and benefits of the flagship scheme launched by the Government of India on September 27, 2021. Administered by the National Health Authority (NHA) under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, ABDM seeks to establish a robust digital health ecosystem across the country.

Through these awareness drives, the SHA highlighted the importance of creating an Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA), which allows individuals to securely access and manage their personal health records. Officials also elaborated on the mission’s two other major components—Health Facility Registry (HFR) and Healthcare Professionals Registry (HPR). HFR serves as a centralized database of verified health facilities, including hospitals, clinics, and diagnostic labs, while HPR captures verified credentials and work details of healthcare professionals like doctors and nurses.

Dr. Arnold Ashu (Anaesthetist) and Dr. Priyanka Iqbal (GDMO, Ayurveda) from Dr. R P Hospital, Mayabunder, graced both events and interacted with attendees, underscoring the need for a digitally connected health infrastructure to improve transparency, accessibility, and efficiency in healthcare services.

The initiative marks a step forward in aligning local communities with the digital transformation of India’s healthcare sector.
