The Directorate of Disaster Management, Andaman & Nicobar Administration, in coordination with all Emergency Support Functionaries, the Andaman & Nicobar Command (ANC), the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and the Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS), will conduct a State-Level Communication Mock Exercise on earthquake and tsunami across the Andaman & Nicobar Islands on March 16.

The exercise will be carried out from 9.30 AM to 11.30 AM and aims to test the effectiveness of disaster communication systems, alert dissemination mechanisms, emergency siren systems, and coordination among various departments and emergency response agencies during earthquake and tsunami situations.

Officials stated that the exercise will primarily focus on verifying various communication channels and alert systems, and no physical response activities will be carried out during the mock drill.

As part of the exercise, emergency sirens will be activated at designated locations across the islands to simulate early warning dissemination. Authorities clarified that the siren activation is solely part of the mock exercise.

The general public has been urged not to panic during the siren activation and related mock exercise activities. All essential and routine public services will continue as usual and will not be disrupted during the exercise.

The administration has sought the cooperation and support of the public to ensure the successful conduct of the communication exercise, which aims to strengthen disaster response mechanisms and enhance public safety across the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
