State Level School Band Competition Held in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Students Display Patriotic Spirit

To foster a sense of patriotism and unity among school students, the Department of School Education and Literacy under the Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India, has launched a nationwide School Band Competition. In line with this initiative, a State-Level School Band Competition was organized on 8th November 2024, by Samagra Shiksha, UT Mission, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, at Government Boys’ Senior Secondary School. The event aimed to select the best school bands in both the Boys and Girls categories to represent the Union Territory at the upcoming Zonal Level Competition, paving the way for potential participation at the National Level.

The event saw enthusiastic participation, with three teams competing in the Boys’ category and four teams in the Girls’ category. A panel of distinguished judges, including Band Masters from the Navy, Army, and Police Departments, evaluated the students’ performances.

In the Girls category, Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Sri Vijaya Puram emerged victorious, clinching first place. Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sri Vijaya Puram, and PM SHRI Government Senior Secondary School, Bambooflat, secured second and third places, respectively. In the Boys category, Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya, Sri Vijaya Puram claimed first place, while Nirmala Senior Secondary School and Government Boys Senior Secondary School were awarded second and third places.

The event concluded with a closing ceremony, where Mr. L. Kumar, IAS, Secretary (Education), graced the occasion as the chief guest. Commending the students for their dedication and artistry, he congratulated the winners and encouraged them to aim high as they advance to the Zonal Level Competition. He expressed hope that the Andaman and Nicobar team would achieve success on the national stage and presented trophies to the winning teams.

Earlier in the day, Mr. Vikram Singh, Director (Education), inaugurated the competition, urging participants to bring enthusiasm and determination to every level of the competition.

The event commenced with a warm welcome from the State Project Officer, Samagra Shiksha, and concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by the Deputy Director of Education.
