In celebration of World Book and Copyright Day, the State Library organised a grand Book Exhibition to honour the enduring power of books in connecting generations and cultures. The event, observed annually on April 23 as declared by UNESCO, aims to promote reading habits, publishing, and respect for intellectual property.
The exhibition was inaugurated by Mr. Vikram Singh, Director (Education), who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. In his address, Mr. Singh highlighted the invaluable role books play in shaping knowledge, sparking imagination, and fostering critical thinking. He urged students and community members to embrace reading as a lifelong habit and commended the State Library for its commitment to literacy and cultural enrichment.
Also present at the event were Deputy Director of Education (Planning) Ms. Archana Singh, and Deputy Director of Education (Science) Mr. Ram Pravesh. A large gathering of students, school heads, readers, and officials from various departments attended the event, reflecting a strong community enthusiasm for literature and learning.
The Book Exhibition showcases an impressive collection of over 850 titles across diverse genres. Visitors can explore books on fiction, non-fiction, children’s literature, yoga, health, medicine, sports, geography, history, Andaman-specific topics, education, religion, philosophy, psychology, agriculture, environment, competitive exam preparation, and regional languages.
The exhibition will remain open to the general public from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM on April 24 and 25 at the State Library.
