Mr. Rakeshwar Lall, State President of Hindu Rashtra Shakti, has submitted a formal representation to key authorities in the Central Government and the Andaman and Nicobar Administration, demanding urgent intervention and relief for islanders facing prolonged power outages across the Union Territory.

In the letter addressed to the Ministry of Power, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, the Member of Parliament from Andaman and Nicobar Islands, the Lt. Governor, and the Chief Secretary, Lall highlighted the widespread damage caused to household electronic appliances such as refrigerators, televisions, and inverters due to repeated and extended power failures.

He alleged that despite the non-availability of regular power supply, islanders continue to receive electricity bills, raising questions about fairness and accountability. Calling the situation “unacceptable,” Lall demanded a six-month exemption from electricity bills for all affected consumers.

The representation underscored the severe impact of the crisis on vulnerable groups, including homemakers, the elderly, infants, and students. Spoiled food, non-functional appliances, and disrupted medical and educational routines have pushed many residents into distress, the letter stated.

Lall called for immediate action in the public interest, including:

– A comprehensive online survey to assess the extent of appliance damage,

– Full compensation to consumers for losses,

– Recovery of compensation from the salaries of allegedly negligent officers in the Electricity Department,

– Disciplinary proceedings against responsible officials,

– A six-month electricity bill waiver for all affected households.

He warned that if no concrete measures are taken, Hindu Rashtra Shakti would be compelled to launch mass protests.

The letter has been marked to several senior officials, including the Union Ministers of Power and New & Renewable Energy, Secretaries of both ministries, and local authorities.
