A violent domestic incident in Namunaghar ended in tragedy on Thursday afternoon when a man allegedly beat his step-son to death, following which Ograbraj Police registered a murder case.
The incident took place around 12.15 pm on December 25, 2025, at Ranchi Basti, Ward No. 1, Namunaghar, in the area near Shiv Mandir. The deceased has been identified as Deep Raj Kumar, while the accused has been named as his step-father, Chotelall Toppo.
According to police records, a home guard volunteer residing in the same locality heard loud cries coming from the direction of the accused’s house, located about 100 metres away. Alarmed by the cries, he rushed towards the house to see what was happening.
On reaching the spot, the home guard saw blood coming out from the head of Deep Raj Kumar. It is recorded that the step-father had brutally assaulted him using a stone and a peedha (a wooden article used for sitting). The assault resulted in serious head injuries.
After witnessing this, the home guard immediately contacted the Police Control Room (PCR) through his mobile phone and informed them about the incident, requesting that an ambulance be arranged.
After making the call for medical assistance, the home guard noticed that Deep Raj Kumar was lying and not moving at a spot about five metres away from Shiv Mandir, Namunaghar. Deep Raj Kumar had died due to the injuries sustained in the assault.
Ograbraj Police registered a case under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deals with the offence of murder, against Chotelall Toppo. Police have taken up the investigation, and further legal proceedings are underway.
