Stringent Enforcement of Silence Period for General Election-2024 in South Andaman

As the nation gears up for the General Election-2024, ensuring the adherence to the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) has become paramount. In line with this, the South Andaman District Police has taken proactive measures to uphold the sanctity of the electoral process and maintain peace during the crucial silence period.

On the evening of April 17, 2024, following the conclusion of all campaign activities, a comprehensive night checking operation was carried out across the entire South Andaman district. Led by Ms. Varsha Sharma, IPS, DIGP(L&O), the team comprised notable officials including Ms. Niharika Bhatt, IPS, SP(D)SA, Ms. Shweta K Sugathan, IPS, SP(PMF), Mr. Vikas Swami, IPS, SDPO (SA), Mr. Sandeep Lamba, DANIPS, DySP(DHQ), and Mr. Vinay Mathur, DANIPS, SDPO(Bambooflat).

Their mission: to ensure strict compliance with the silence period as mandated by the electoral guidelines. Patrolling efforts were intensified not only in South Andaman Division but was also extended to the Bambooflat Sub Division.

The primary objective behind this heightened vigilance is to maintain law and order, thwart any potential disturbances, and safeguard the democratic rights of every citizen. The police have reiterated their commitment to upholding the principles of democracy and have warned of stringent legal action against any misconduct or violations of the MCC.

Furthermore, the public has been urged to cooperate with law enforcement authorities and report any instances of anti-social activities that may compromise the integrity of the electoral process.
