STS Bus Accidentally Smashes Legs of an Old Lady at Campbell Bay; Victim Suffered Serious Injuries, Airlifted to Port Blair

Phoolmani Devi, a Senior Citizen residing in GP Govind Nagar at Great Nicobar was seriously injured when an STS Bus accidentally smashed her legs Near PHC Campbell Bay on 17th November 2022. Phoolmani Devi travelled on the same STS Bus from her village and got down near PHC Campbell Bay.

She was visiting the hospital to fetch her regular Blood Pressure Meds. As Phoolmani Devi got down from the bus and started moving towards the Hospital Gate, the driver of the STS Bus got busy turning the bus around.

The accident took place while the bus was being turned around. Somehow, the legs of Phoolmani Devi were smashed by the rear wheels of the bus. 

The octogenarian after the accident was rushed to PHC Campbell Bay where the doctor diagnosed her with serious crush injuries on the Right Lower Limb and broken toe bones on her Left Lower Limb.

A request was made for airlifting the patient from Campbell Bay to Port Blair for specialised treatment and according to the reports, a defence MI-17 helicopter airlifted the patient from Campbell Bay at about 20:00 Hrs on 17th November.

The patient was properly stabilised by the doctor at PHC Campbell Bay before she was airlifted to Port Blair. 

Police registered an FIR and the driver of the bus was arrested and later left on bail.

  1. STS should take action as against the driver, and compensate her. May be give her or family member should get job.
