In a bid to bridge the gap between theoretical learning and practical application, an educational exposure visit was organized for students of three Senior Secondary Schools under the ‘PRAYAS’ initiative. Students from PM SHRI Govt. Senior Secondary School Sabari Junction, Govt. Model Senior Secondary School Mayabunder, and Govt. Model Senior Secondary School Sitangar were taken on a guided tour of power generation facilities across the district.
The visits took the students to Power House Stations at Panighat, Nimbutala Jetty Rangat Bay, Sitanagar in Diglipur, and the Kalpong Hydroelectric Project in Nabagram, Diglipur. The objective was to provide a hands-on learning experience of how power is generated and distributed, giving students insight into the real-world workings of power generation systems.
During the tour, engineers guided the students through various stages of the power generation process. They were shown how electricity is produced using turbines and generators, and how fuel plays a key role in powering these systems. The students also learned about the distribution of electricity from the powerhouses to the local grid, ensuring an uninterrupted power supply to homes and commercial establishments.
The tour also covered key technical aspects such as high-voltage transmission lines that transport electricity over long distances and the challenges engineers face in maintaining these systems.
Apart from observing the physical infrastructure, students had the opportunity to engage with technical staff in interactive sessions. The engineers shared valuable insights into the safety measures involved in running a power station, emphasising the significance of energy conservation and addressing the environmental impacts of power generation.
The visit was part of a broader initiative to enhance practical learning experiences for students. Similar educational visits are planned with other departments across various sub-divisions in the district, offering students further opportunities to observe and understand real-world applications of their studies.
This initiative marks an important step toward nurturing the next generation of informed and skilled individuals, potentially inspiring some of the students to pursue careers in the energy and engineering sectors.
