Students of GSS Pinakinagar Visit ICAR–KVK N&M Andaman to Explore Modern Agriculture

A group of 65 students and teachers from Government Secondary School (GSS) Pinakinagar visited ICAR–Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), North & Middle Andaman today as part of an educational study tour aimed at enhancing practical knowledge in agriculture and allied sectors.

The visiting team was received by Mr. Rakesh Dawar, Subject Matter Specialist (Agronomy), who briefed the students about the KVK’s ongoing agricultural initiatives and facilities such as crop demonstration fields, fisheries units, farm mechanisation tools, integrated farming systems and vermicomposting units. Students were also introduced to climate-resilient technologies and sustainable farming methods essential for food and nutritional security.

Further, Mr. Yatharth Sharma, Subject Matter Specialist (Home Science), explained the role and mandate of KVKs in transferring scientific innovations to farming communities. He highlighted the major extension activities, welfare schemes for farmers, and the growing career opportunities in agriculture and allied sciences. He also emphasised the importance of science and technology in transforming rural livelihoods.

The exposure visit aimed to motivate young learners to explore prospects in agriculture while fostering awareness on innovation, sustainability and skill development in farming.

The programme was organised under the overall guidance of Dr. Jai Sunder, Director (Acting), ICAR-CIARI, Sri Vijaya Puram.
