The newly recruited personnel of the Police Marine Force of the Andaman and Nicobar Police have successfully completed an intensive 7-week training program conducted in association with the Indian Coast Guard. This initiative marks the first collaboration of its kind in the islands’ history, aiming to enhance the operational capabilities and skills of the police marine force.

The training cohort consisted of 12 technical police personnel, including 2 Sub-Inspectors (ED), 1 Head Constable (Electrician), 2 Police Constables (Lascar), and 7 Police Constables (Greaser). The program, hosted at the Coast Guard District Headquarters (DHQ)-14 in Port Blair, commenced on May 1, 2024, and concluded with a valedictory ceremony on June 20, 2024.

The comprehensive training covered both theoretical and practical aspects, focusing on critical areas such as Navigation, Communication, Seamanship, Boarding, Damage Control, and Fire Fighting. A standout feature of the program was a sea acquaintance sortie onboard the vessel Urja Sanchay, which included a journey to Mayabunder. This provided the trainees with vital hands-on experience and familiarisation with maritime operations. Additionally, specialised courses in Indian Maritime Organisation Level-I and Maritime Pollution Response were conducted, with certificates awarded to the participants.

This collaboration is part of ongoing efforts by the Indian Coast Guard and the Police Marine Force to enhance maritime security in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Joint initiatives such as coastal security exercises, sea patrolling, and search and rescue operations have been regularly conducted to curb poaching activities and other maritime threats in the region. These efforts underscore the commitment of both forces to ensure the safety and security of the islands’ territorial waters.

The valedictory function at Coast Guard DHQ-14 was attended by distinguished guests, including Mr. Pradeep B. Mandal, TM, DIG, District Commander, Coast Guard District HQ No. 14, Mr. Sanjay Kumar Tyagi, IPS, Deputy Inspector General of Police (Intelligence), Ms. Shweta K. Sugathan, IPS, Superintendent of Police (Police Marine Force), and other senior officials from the Indian Coast Guard.

Looking ahead, the Police Marine Force is eager to undertake more collaborative initiatives with the Indian Coast Guard and the Andaman Nicobar Command. These joint efforts are crucial for securing the islands from maritime threats and enhancing the operational efficiency and professional development of both forces.
