In a decisive move against illicit activities, a dedicated team from PS Ograbraj, consisting of SI K V Abdul Salam, HCs Ashok Roy, and Nelson, embarked on a mission on March 25th, 2024. Their objective: to dismantle the manufacturing of premature illicit liquor (Lehan) and apprehend the perpetrators in the Port Mout revenue forest area.
During their operation, while scouring the revenue forest area behind Port Mout Basti, the team stumbled upon evidence of illegal activity in the form of hand-sawn padauk timber. Recognizing the seriousness of the find, the team initiated a meticulous investigation to determine ownership and legality. Despite exhaustive efforts, no individuals or evidence indicating legality were uncovered.
The operation resulted in the recovery of 02 pieces of hand-sawn padauk timber measuring 24 x 15 cm x 160 cm (0.0576 cbm), and 01 piece measuring 15 x 12 cm x 160 cm (0.0288 cbm), totaling 03 pieces measuring 0.1440 cbm. Acting swiftly, the team seized the illegally obtained timber on the spot, formally documenting the seizure with a memo.
The information regarding the seizure was promptly conveyed to the relevant Forest Official, who pledged to take over the seized articles from the spot. Subsequently, the seized timber was handed over to Mr. Anoop Singh, Forester, Ograbraj Beat, Tushnabad Range, on the same day at 21:30 hrs for further necessary action.
This successful operation underscores the relentless efforts of the PS Ograbraj team in combating illegal activities within the forests and preserving natural resources. Their commitment to upholding the law and protecting the environment remains steadfast.
The operation fell within the jurisdiction of PS Ograbraj, under the leadership of SI Devanand Pathak, SHO, PS Ograbraj, with the overall supervision of Mr. Sandeep Lamba, DANIPS, Sub Divisional Police Officer, Bambooflat, and the overall command of Ms. Niharika Bhatt, Superintendent Police, South Andaman District.
