In preparation for the General Election-2024, the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) team of the District Election Office (DEO) in South Andaman organized a significant Blood Donation Camp at Junglighat Khaitan Mandapam on March 17, 2024. This event, part of a series of initiatives by the SVEEP team, aimed to foster voter education and awareness among the masses, encouraging them to participate in the democratic process by casting their votes on Polling Day, scheduled for April 19, 2024, in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands Parliamentary Constituency.

The event was graced by the presence of Mr. Arjun Sharma, IAS, the Returning Officer for the Andaman & Nicobar Islands Parliamentary Constituency (ANIPC), who distributed Donors Certificates to the voluntary blood donors. He also presented mementos and T-shirts inscribed with the slogan ‘Chunav Ka Parv- Desh Ka Garv’. Mr. Sharma took the opportunity to interact with the blood donors, acknowledging their contribution and emphasizing the importance of civic participation.

The Andaman & Nicobar AIDS Control Society (ANACS), in collaboration with the Blood Bank at G.B. Pant Hospital and the Directorate of Health Services, facilitated the successful execution of the Blood Donation Camp. A technical team from the Blood Bank and ANACS ensured that all donated blood units underwent thorough screening for blood-transmissible diseases. Additionally, potential donors were assessed for eligibility and provided with comprehensive information about the significance of blood donation.

Mr. Wairokpam Punshiba Singh, IAS, the Nodal Officer for SVEEP, extended a warm welcome to the chief guest, donors, and attendees. He briefed the gathering about the various SVEEP activities organized as part of the General Election-2024, aimed at maximizing awareness and participation in the electoral process.

The Blood Donation Camp served as a dual-purpose initiative, not only promoting civic engagement through voter awareness but also contributing to the noble cause of saving lives through voluntary blood donation. As the polling day approaches, such initiatives play a crucial role in fostering a sense of responsibility and active participation among citizens in shaping the democratic future of the nation.
