Sri Vijaya Puram Municipal Council (SVPMC) has introduced user charges and strict penalties for the disposal of Construction and Demolition (C&D) waste, aligning with the Solid Waste (Handling and Management) Bye-Laws, 2017. This move aims to streamline waste management and maintain cleanliness in the region.
As per the Bye-Laws, all C&D waste generators are required to store the waste separately and inform SVPMC by contacting its Control Room at 03192-231179. The municipal body has assured that waste collection will be completed within seven days of notification and transported to a designated Storage-cum-Transfer Centre.
To facilitate systematic waste management, SVPMC has set up C&D Waste Storage Units across various locations, managed by the respective Road Works Junior Engineers. These units are located at Anarkali (Ward Nos. 01-08), AIR Road (Ward Nos. 01-08), VIP Road (Ward Nos. 10-13), Dairy Farm (Ward Nos. 09, 14-16), and Dollygunj (Ward Nos. 17-24).
In an effort to regulate waste disposal effectively, SVPMC has imposed user charges of Rs.900 per cubic meter/ton for waste collection and transportation. Additionally, violators who fail to segregate and dispose of C&D waste as per regulations will be subjected to a penalty of Rs.5000 per ton.
Residents can request waste pickup through an online form (https://forms.gle/hUkAPfGVEsrfixCT8), via SVPMC’s official website (https://pbmc.gov.in/), or by calling the Control Room at 03192-231179. Once a request is received, the concerned Road Works Junior Engineer will coordinate collection, with payments facilitated through a POS machine issued by the Revenue Officer, SVPMC.
To ensure compliance, SVPMC’s Sanitary Inspectors will conduct regular monitoring and impose on-the-spot fines for violations. In cases of non-compliance, SVPMC may issue a notice requiring waste clearance at designated locations or mandating payment for removal services.
SVPMC has urged residents to adhere to the guidelines and contribute to a cleaner and more sustainable Sri Vijaya Puram. For additional information, residents can contact SVPMC at 03192-231179 or visit the official website (https://pbmc.gov.in/).
