As part of the ongoing Swachhata Hi Seva campaign, the South Andaman-based SVPMC carried out a special cleanliness drive across all 24 wards, targeting the removal of single-use plastics (SUPs).

The drive focused on clearing roadside areas, drains, culverts, footpaths, households, commercial establishments, private institutions, and even coastal stretches. The initiative saw active participation from Safai Mitras, municipal staff, and local community members at the ward level.

In tandem with the cleanliness effort, a combined enforcement and awareness campaign was conducted at major marketplaces, including Mohanpura Market, Ratnam Market, Gandhi Market, and Babu Line. The campaign aimed to sensitize shopkeepers, vendors, and the general public about the strict prohibition on single-use plastics and the environmental hazards associated with their use.

During the enforcement drive, violators were fined a total of Rs. 15,000, and approximately 22 kilograms of plastic bags were seized. The confiscated material has been securely stored at the SVPMC godown.

SVPMC reaffirmed its commitment to promoting sustainable practices and urged all citizens to actively support the mission of eliminating single-use plastics, contributing to a cleaner, healthier, and greener city.
