Swaraj Dweep Police Seizes Illegal Timber in Successful Raid

In a significant operation, the Swaraj Dweep Police seized 0.30 CBM of illegal padauk timber, valued at approximately ₹30,000, during a raid that led to the detention of two individuals.

Acting on credible information, a swift police team was assembled under the leadership of ASI Shiv Shankar Singh, accompanied by Head Constable Anoon Pradeep Toppo, Constable Prashant Deep Dung Dung, and other officers. The raid took place at Lakki Basti, Shyam Nagar No-4, Swaraj Dweep, where the premises of two suspects, identified as Ramesh Mondal and Rabindra Bepari, were searched. The team recovered and seized 27 pieces of hand-sawn padauk timber on the spot.

Both individuals were detained and brought to Swaraj Dweep Police Station for further questioning. The seized timber and detainees were handed over to the Forest Department for necessary legal action.

The raid was conducted under the leadership of Inspector K. Abdul Nasir, Station House Officer (SHO) of PS Swaraj Dweep, and supervised by Mr. Firoj Alam, SDPO Swaraj Dweep, with overall guidance from Ms. Niharika Bhatt, Superintendent of Police, South Andaman District.

Authorities have urged the public to report any illegal activities by contacting the police. Informants are assured that their identities will remain confidential.
