In a significant crackdown on bootlegging, the Swaraj Dweep Police achieved a major success by confiscating 1,287 bottles of illegally possessed Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) and arresting one individual. This operation marks a notable victory in the ongoing fight against the illicit sale of alcohol on the island.
Acting on a tip-off about a large stash of IMFL intended for illegal sale, the police team from PS Swaraj Dweep swiftly formed a raiding party. The team, led by Inspector K. Abdul Nasir, SHO PS Swaraj Dweep, and comprising HC Kuldip Singh, HC(D) Nishal Ruben Ekka, IRBn HC N. Birender Surin, PCs Mohammed Sharif, G. Dev Raju, PC(D) P. Jagan, PC(D) Taposh Mistry, and CTs Mahesh Singh and P. Mahesh Babu, raided two rooms adjacent to the shop of Sujan Sikder, 47, son of Sukharanjan Sikder, in Govind Nagar No. 2.
During the raid, the police recovered 1,287 bottles of sealed IMFL of various measures, with an estimated market value of ₹3,33,820. The liquor was seized on the spot, and the accused, Sujan Sikder, was arrested and taken to PS Swaraj Dweep. All legal procedures were meticulously followed during the operation.
The successful operation was conducted under the supervision of Mr. Firoj Alam, DANIPS, SDPO, Swaraj Dweep, and the overall supervision of Ms. Niharika Bhatt, IPS, Superintendent of Police, South Andaman.
The police have urged the general public to assist in the fight against illegal activities by providing information on suspicious activities.
