Swift Justice: PS Kalighat Solves ₹3.17 Lakh Theft Case in 24 Hours

In a remarkable display of efficiency and quick action, the Kalighat Police Station cracked a theft case within 24 hours, recovering a substantial portion of the stolen amount. The case began on September 2, 2024, when a resident of Srinagar reported the theft of his ATM card, which led to unauthorised withdrawals amounting to ₹3,17,000 from his bank account.

The victim discovered the theft when he attempted to withdraw cash and realised that his ATM card was missing. Alarmed by the magnitude of the unauthorised transactions, he immediately reported the incident to the Kalighat Police Station. Acting swiftly, the police registered a case of theft under the relevant sections of BNS, 2023.

Under the leadership of Sub-Inspector Ashok Kumar Baghel, Station House Officer (SHO) of PS Kalighat, a dedicated team was formed to tackle the case. The team included Sub-Inspector M. J. Indrajit and Police Constables Subrato Biswas, Rippan, Hazarat Kumar, and Irenious. The team wasted no time, launching an investigation that combined on-ground intelligence with technical surveillance to track down the suspect.

Thanks to their diligent efforts, the team successfully apprehended the culprit, identified as Sernu Ram, a 31-year-old resident of Parangara, Kalighat. During interrogation, Ram confessed to the crime. Within a mere 24 hours, the police recovered a significant portion of the stolen funds, along with other valuable items from the accused.

The operation was conducted under the supervision of Mr. Ankesh Yadav, DANIPS, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Diglipur, and the overall direction of Ms. Geetanjali Khandelwal, IPS, Superintendent of Police, North & Middle Andaman District.
