In a dramatic display of courage and teamwork, three individuals were rescued from drowning in rough sea conditions near Hodi Basti, Harminder Bay, on Saturday afternoon.

At 2:50 pm on 04th October 2025, Fire Station Hut Bay received a distress call reporting that three people were struggling in the turbulent waters. Leading the rescue operation, ASI Madhab Sarkar, along with Fire Mitra Joy Kerketta, promptly rushed to the scene.

Upon reaching the spot, the team spotted the victims far out in the open sea. Without hesitation, Fire Mitra Joy Kerketta, Lifeguard Robin, and local resident Sumit, all wearing life jackets, entered the rough waters and successfully brought all three individuals to safety.

The Andaman & Nicobar Fire & Emergency Services (A&NF&ES) lauded the bravery, prompt action, and teamwork demonstrated by the fire personnel, lifeguards, and local volunteers. “Their courageous act exemplifies selflessness, dedication, and community spirit,” the department said.

Authorities have urged the public to avoid entering the sea during adverse weather conditions and to always inform the nearest lifeguard or emergency personnel before venturing into the water, emphasizing that caution can save lives.
