In a striking move aimed at drawing attention to the deteriorating condition of National Highway-4 (NH-4), Mr. T.S.G. Bhasker, Chairman of the Campaign Committee of the Andaman & Nicobar Territorial Congress Committee (ANTCC), has lodged formal complaints at Baratang and Rangat Police Stations, expressing his intent to file First Information Reports (FIRs) over the “disappearance” of the highway.

NH-4, considered a lifeline for residents of North and Middle Andaman, plays a crucial role in facilitating travel, trade, and emergency medical services. In his complaint, Mr. Bhasker urged the police authorities to initiate an immediate investigation to “locate and restore” the missing portions of the road and to identify those responsible for negligence in its maintenance and management.

A press release from the ANTCC stated that the filing of these complaints underscores Mr. Bhasker’s commitment to safeguarding public infrastructure and ensuring that the concerns of island residents are not ignored.

The move, however, is widely seen as a symbolic and sarcastic protest — a way to spotlight the prolonged public hardship caused by the deplorable condition of NH-4, which continues to disrupt daily life across the North and Middle Andaman Districts.
