TB Awareness-cum-Screening Programme Conducted at Long Island; 35 Participate

An awareness-cum-screening programme on Tuberculosis (TB) was organised at the Gram Panchayat Hall on February 11, 2026, with participation from PRI members and the general public.

As part of the programme, a health talk was delivered focusing on the signs and symptoms of TB, the benefits under the Nikshay Poshan Yojana, and the role of Nikshay Mitra in supporting TB patients. Dr. Alice Bwa, Medical Officer–District TB Centre (MO–DTC), elaborated on various aspects of tuberculosis, including its causes, modes of transmission, preventive measures, and treatment protocol. She stressed the importance of early diagnosis and strict adherence to the full course of treatment to ensure complete recovery and prevent the spread of the disease.

A total of 35 participants attended the programme and interacted with the health team to clarify their doubts regarding TB and related government support schemes.

Earlier, Dr. Alice Bwa visited PHC Long Island along with the NTEP team for monitoring and supervision of activities under the National TB Elimination Programme (NTEP). During the visit, she held discussions with Dr. Nelsmart, Medical Officer In-Charge, PHC Long Island, on issues related to TB control and effective implementation of the programme in the area.

The visiting team comprised Mr. Madhava Rao, District Programme Coordinator; Mr. Dulal Mondal, District PMDT Coordinator; Ms. Meenakshi Paul, Senior Treatment Supervisor; and Ms. Sushma Das, ANM.
