Port Blair, 06 February 2024

In a bid to safeguard crucial telecommunication assets, a temporary moratorium on tree cutting and digging activities in public spaces has been swiftly implemented, affecting both the general public and private contractors. The measure, effective immediately, will remain in place until the conclusion of the third week of February 2024.

All individuals and entities involved in tree cutting and digging operations in public areas have been promptly notified to cease such activities without delay. This decisive action aims to minimize disruptions and mitigate potential damages to both overhead and underground telecommunication infrastructure.

The moratorium comes as a response to the need to prevent accidental harm to fibre and copper cables, as well as other essential telecommunication assets. With the increasing reliance on telecommunication services in various aspects of daily life, ensuring the integrity of the infrastructure becomes paramount.

Authorities have urged full compliance with these temporary restrictions.
