Torch Relay Across All Three Districts of A&N Islands to Mark National Sports Day

As a tribute to hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand, the Department of Education and Sports & Youth Affairs will organize a Torch Relay in all three districts of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands to commemorate National Sports Day.

The initiative was formally launched by the Hon’ble Lt. Governor, who unveiled three ceremonial torches during the Independence Day celebrations at Netaji Stadium on August 15.

In South Andaman District, the Torch Relay will be conducted from August 21 to 23, 2025, beginning each day at 8 am and covering key routes before culminating at designated venues.

Schedule & Routes:

  • August 21: GSSS Model School → Middle Point → Goalghar → Prem Nagar → Delanipur → Haddo → Sea Shore Road → Light House → Secretariat → RBV → Junglighat → Dairy Farm → School Line → Bathubasti → Prothrapur → Bird Line → Beodnabad → Rangachang → Chidiyatapu Beach.
  • August 22: School Line → Bathubasti → Garacharma → Sippighat → Dhanikhari Chowk → Humfreygunj → Manglutan → Wandoor Beach.
  • August 23: Chouldari → Port Mout → Ograbraj Chowk. The torch will then be handed over to the Nodal Officer, DEO Wimberlygunj.

The Torch Relay aims to promote the spirit of sportsmanship, inspire youth participation in athletics, and honor the enduring legacy of Major Dhyan Chand on the occasion of National Sports Day. (Story Based on PR)
