Andaman and Nicobar Islands Tourism Department is all set to celebrate ‘World Tourism Day 2023’ on September 27, 2023, with great enthusiasm and a focus on the theme ‘Tourism and Green Investment.’ To mark this occasion, the Directorate of Tourism has meticulously planned a series of events and activities in collaboration with tourism stakeholders, various government departments, and India Tourism, spanning from September 22 to September 27, 2023.
Kicking off the festivities, the first event in the lineup is a thrilling beach volleyball tournament. The beach volleyball tournament kicked off at Corbyn’s Cove Beach at 10 am on 22nd September 2023 (today). The tournament will continue through September 24, providing both locals and tourists with an exciting sporting spectacle.
On September 23, adventure enthusiasts can partake in a special trekking expedition to Mt. Manipur, promising breathtaking vistas and an adrenaline rush for all participants.
Throughout the week, a variety of activities are planned, including an open Elocution Competition for school and college students from Class X to XII, scheduled for September 25. A workshop will also be conducted on the same day, offering valuable insights into the world of tourism and green investment.
In a bid to promote cleanliness and environmental conservation, the Tourism Department will organize a beach cleaning drive on September 23 at Corbyn’s Cove Beach, Radhanagar Beach, Bharatpur Beach, Amkunj Beach, and Kalipur Beach. Subsequently, beach cleaning initiatives will continue on September 25 at Wandoor Beach and on September 26 at Mundapahar Beach. These initiatives will be undertaken with the support of the Port Blair Municipal Council (PBMC), Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs), and tourism stakeholders.
On the grand occasion of World Tourism Day itself, tourists arriving at Veer Savarkar International Airport, Rajiv Gandhi Water Sports Complex, Shaheed Dweep, and Swaraj Dweep will receive a warm and hospitable welcome. The main event for World Tourism Day will take place in the evening at Dr. B R Ambedkar Auditorium, featuring an enriching cultural program on September 27. The event will culminate with a prize distribution ceremony, where the chief guest will felicitate the winners of various competitions.
