Tourism Department Invites Applications to Conduct Stargazing Activities in Various Locations of South Andaman and N&M Andaman Districts

In a move to promote astro tourism in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, the Department of Tourism, A&N Administration, has invited applications from interested individuals and astro tourism operators or organisers to conduct stargazing activities during night hours in South Andaman as well as North and Middle Andaman districts.

According to the Department, permission for stargazing activities is proposed to be extended at select locations identified for their suitability and minimal environmental impact. In North and Middle Andaman district, the identified sites include Karmatang Beach at Mayabunder and Ramnagar Beach at Diglipur. In South Andaman district, the proposed locations are Beodnabad, Burmanallah and Kodiyaghat along the sea-shore area, along with Viper Island.

The initiative aims to promote astro tourism as an eco-friendly and sustainable tourism activity that can generate income and employment opportunities for local communities. The Department stated that the programme is intended to encourage the participation of local astro tourism operators who adhere to the principles of sustainable tourism and environmental conservation.

The initiative also seeks to foster research and collaboration among astro tourists, local communities and scientific institutions, with the objective of enhancing knowledge and awareness about various celestial bodies.

Interested applicants willing to organise stargazing activities for tourists and astronomy enthusiasts can submit their applications in writing to the Directorate of Information, Publicity and Tourism (IP&T), A&N Administration, on or before February 10, 2026, the Department informed.
