Tourism Department to Celebrate World Tourism Day 2025 with Events on the Theme “Tourism & Sustainable Transformation”

The Department of Tourism, Andaman & Nicobar Administration, will celebrate World Tourism Day 2025 with a series of events across the Islands, focusing on the theme “Tourism & Sustainable Transformation”, in line with the United Nations World Tourism Organization’s (UNWTO) global theme.

The celebrations aim to promote responsible tourism that safeguards the environment while driving socio-economic growth. A range of activities has been planned to actively involve stakeholders, tourists, and the local community.

Highlights of the celebrations include:

  • Underwater Photography Contest (Sept. 20–25): Showcasing the Islands’ rich marine biodiversity.
  • Volleyball Tournament (Sept. 25–26, 9 AM–5 PM): To be held at Mini Stadium, Wimberlygunj. Interested participants may contact 9434271809 or 9434263798 for registration.
  • Traditional Welcome of Tourists (Sept. 27): At Veer Savarkar International Airport, National Memorial Cellular Jail, and jetties at Swaraj Dweep & Shaheed Dweep.
  • Free Entry to Museums (Sept. 27): Including Chatham Saw Mill, Samudrika, Anthropological Museum, Fisheries Museum, and the National Memorial Cellular Jail.
  • Thematic Seminar (Sept. 27, 10 AM–12 Noon): At Megapode Nest Conference Hall, Haddo, featuring expert talks, discussions on sustainable tourism practices, and the launch of new initiatives by the Tourism Department.
  • Cuisine of India Festival & Cultural Programme (Sept. 27, 3 PM–10 PM): At ITF Ground, offering traditional cuisine, vibrant cultural performances, and entertainment.

The winners of various competitions will be felicitated during the grand cultural evening on September 27 at ITF Ground.

Through these celebrations, the Administration seeks to raise awareness about sustainable tourism while showcasing the Islands’ cultural richness and natural heritage.
