In a significant move to encourage sustainable and responsible tourism practices while preserving the environment and supporting local communities, the Tourism Department has announced an upcoming awareness and sensitisation program set to take place on November 2, 2023 at Shaheed Dweep.
The event, scheduled to be held at the Committee Hall of the Murugan Temple, Shaheed Dweep, is designed to educate and engage a wide range of participants, including tourism stakeholders, unemployed youth, professionals, local communities, and travellers. Its primary aim is to underline the importance of responsible tourism and its positive impact on both the environment and the local economy.
In recent years, there has been a growing concern regarding the environmental, cultural, and social implications of tourism. This program seeks to address these concerns by encouraging all stakeholders to actively participate in safeguarding the long-term sustainability of tourist destinations.
The awareness and sensitisation program will cover various aspects of responsible tourism, emphasising the need for conservation and community support. It will also highlight the potential for responsible tourism to create a more sustainable future for both the environment and the local economy.
Those interested in participating in this vital program are encouraged to register with the Tourism Department’s In-charge at Shaheed Dweep or with the Pradhan at Neil Kendra, Shaheed Dweep by November 1, 2023. The program promises to be a pivotal step in advancing the cause of responsible and sustainable tourism in Shaheed Dweep and beyond.
