A group of tourists allegedly assaulted resort staff and police personnel at a resort in Vijay Nagar No. 5 at Swaraj Dweep on Saturday night, leading to the arrest of four individuals. The incident occurred at Coral Reef Resort and created a tense situation before police managed to bring the situation under control.

According to the FIR registered at Swaraj Dweep Police Station, the incident occurred on March 14 at about 9:15 pm after the resort manager informed the police that around 15–20 tourists, allegedly in an inebriated state, were assaulting the resort staff and creating a disturbance at the premises.

Acting on the information, a Sub-Inspector along with police personnel, including a Head Constable, Constables and Lady Police Constables, rushed to the resort. Upon reaching the spot, the police team found the tourists allegedly involved in a physical assault on the resort staff.

The police personnel attempted to intervene and pacify the situation after identifying themselves. However, the tourists allegedly continued their aggressive behaviour and reportedly manhandled both the resort staff and the police personnel despite being warned.

During the scuffle, one of the tourists allegedly attempted to attack the Sub-Inspector with a broken beer bottle, resulting in injuries to the officer on the nose and forehead. Other uniformed police personnel also sustained injuries while trying to control the situation.

As per the FIR, the Sub-Inspector managed to call the SHO, who arrived at the spot with additional police personnel, following which the situation was brought under control.

Preliminary inquiry revealed that the group had arrived at the resort as part of a corporate booking from a company based in Pune, Maharashtra, and around 26 people were staying at the resort.

Based on the complaint lodged by the Sub-Inspector, the police registered a case against four accused persons identified as Rajjak Yusuf Shaikh (35) of Pune, Maharashtra; Suman Bid (24) of Purulia, West Bengal; Pushkar Sadashiv Inamdar (42) of Pune, Maharashtra; and Amit Kumar Manna (58) of Haldia, West Bengal.

A case has been registered under Sections 121(1), 132, 221 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, and the accused have been arrested.

As per sources, all four persons named in the FIR have been arrested and brought to Sri Vijaya Puram for production before the court.

Further details are awaited.
