The A&N Traffic Police has issued a strict advisory for all commercial vehicle owners and drivers, urging them to comply with the Central Motor Vehicles Rules (CMVR), 1989. The rules mandate that vehicle registration marks and relevant details be displayed in a visible and standardised manner.

In a move aimed at improving traffic management and accountability, the police are now emphasising an additional directive: all commercial vehicles must display the owner’s or driver’s contact number on both sides and the rear of the vehicle. This information should be clearly legible and printed on durable material to ensure long-lasting visibility.

While this rule is specifically targeted at commercial vehicles, the Traffic Police has also recommended that owners and drivers of private vehicles voluntarily adhere to this advisory. The initiative aims to streamline communication, especially in situations where vehicles are left unattended or are causing traffic disruptions during peak hours or emergencies. By displaying contact details, the Traffic Police hopes to minimise delays and prevent vehicles from being towed, a process which can sometimes cause minor damage.

This measure is expected to enhance operational efficiency and ease communication between vehicle owners and authorities, ensuring smoother traffic flow across the region.
