A heart-wrenching tragedy unfolded in Car Nicobar on the evening of October 13, 2024, when a three-year-old girl’s life was tragically cut short in a devastating road accident. The vibrant young child, Miss Anya, was struck by a four-wheeler near the headquarter area, leaving a community shattered in grief.
Mr. Emmanuel, the victim’s older brother, recounted the horrific incident in his statement to Police, stating that he was preparing snacks at their family restaurant, S.J. Snacks Resto, when he saw his sister standing at the roadside, ready to cross. As he walked to retrieve some items from their home, he witnessed a Mahindra Bolero pick-up truck approaching recklessly from Gandhi Chowk side. The vehicle struck his sister as she attempted to cross the road, leaving her severely injured.
“Despite our immediate rush to BJR Hospital for treatment, my sister succumbed to her injuries during treatment. The duty doctor confirmed that she died due to the serious wounds she sustained,” Emmanuel shared in his statement to the Police. “This incident was caused by the negligent driving of the pick-up truck.”, he added.
Soon after the unfortunate accident and the death of the innocent three-year-old, community members were outraged by the incident, with angry crowds gathering outside the local police station, demanding justice for Anya. They were not just mourning the loss of an innocent child but also calling for accountability.
The driver of the vehicle, who works as a supervisor for an MES contractor inside the Air Force Station premises, has been booked under Sections 281 and 106(1) of the BNS Act, 2023.
This tragic loss is a painful reminder of the increasing road safety issues in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Each incident leaves a profound impact on the close-knit communities, with the loss of such a young life resonating deeply. The call for improved vigilance on the roads has never been more urgent, as the community mourns not just for the life lost but for the innocence and joy that will never return.
The community stands united in their grief, seeking justice for Anya and hoping that no other family has to endure such an unbearable loss.
Totally false statement the mother of the 3 year old girl calling her baby from other side of road and she suddenly run to her mother and came suddenly in front of the pickup there is no reckless driving in that scenario let the court decide don’t spread the one side story.. if she is 3 years old then how can she cross the main road alone think before you speak .
