A two-day training programme on Adult BCG Vaccination for Medical Officers and Health Staff of Nicobar District was organized on November 19 and 20 at the Directorate of Health Services. The programme was jointly conducted by the Central TB Division (MoHFW, GoI), the State TB Cell, and the State Immunization Division of A&N Islands, aiming to strengthen preparedness for the upcoming pilot rollout of Adult BCG Vaccination in the Nicobar region.

The training was delivered in hybrid mode, with technical sessions led virtually by experts from the Central TB Division and on-ground facilitation by State-level trainers. Senior officials including Dr. Urvashi B. Singh, Deputy Director General (TB), Dr. Veena Dhawan, Additional Commissioner, CTD, and Dr. Suja Antony, Director of Health Services, addressed the inaugural session. Dr. Urvashi B. Singh highlighted the importance of Adult BCG Vaccination in mitigating tuberculosis incidence, while Dr. P. Lal, State TB Officer, briefed participants on the TB burden in the islands and the rationale behind selecting Nicobar district for the pilot initiative.

The participating health personnel were trained on a range of operational and technical aspects including beneficiary identification, micro-planning, documentation and reporting protocols, injection techniques, cold-chain maintenance, AEFI preparedness, and biomedical waste management. A total of six Medical Officers and thirteen Health Staff from Nicobar District attended the training, a communication from the State Health Society stated. (Story Based on PR)
