The Department of Fisheries, Andaman & Nicobar Administration, in association with the Central Institute of Fisheries Nautical and Engineering Training (CIFNET), successfully concluded a three-day training programme on Maintenance of Boat Engine and Fishing Practice for local fishermen.

The programme, held from November 24, was organised under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) and funded by the National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB), with the aim of enhancing technical capacity and promoting safe and modern fishing practices among the fisher community.

A total of 25 fishermen participated in the training, which included classroom sessions as well as practical demonstrations. On the final day, trainees were imparted critical knowledge on engine maintenance, defect identification, troubleshooting, and sustainable fishing practices. The sessions were conducted by experienced CIFNET faculty members, ensuring participants received hands-on, field-oriented exposure.

Addressing the participants during the valedictory session, Miss Glory, Assistant Director of Fisheries, Nicobar, reaffirmed the department’s commitment to supporting fishermen through continued capacity-building initiatives and promoting modern, efficient fishing methods to boost livelihood opportunities.

Certificates were awarded to all participants by CIFNET representatives, marking the successful completion of the programme.
