Training Programme on SAANS Initiative Conducted for Medical Officers

A two-day training programme under the Social Awareness & Action to Neutralize Pneumonia Successfully (SAANS) initiative was conducted on February 13 and 14, 2025, at AYUSH Hospital and G.B. Pant Hospital, Sri Vijaya Puram. The programme aimed to enhance the skills of healthcare professionals in detecting, diagnosing, and managing childhood pneumonia, a leading cause of child mortality.

The training was led by eminent medical experts, including Dr. S. Sunil Kumar, Deputy Director (HE), Dr. Pragathesh, Professor & HoD, Department of Paediatrics, ANIIMS, Dr. Ritu Singh, Professor, Department of Paediatrics, and Dr. Reema Dakua, Senior Resident, Department of Paediatrics, ANIIMS. They provided hands-on training to Medical Officers from various health institutions across the region.

The programme concluded on February 14, with Dr. H.M. Siddaraju, Director of Health Services (I/c), gracing the occasion as the chief guest. He handed over certificates to the participants and emphasized the importance of initiatives like SAANS in combating childhood pneumonia and reducing morbidity and mortality rates.

The SAANS initiative focuses on raising awareness in communities and strengthening healthcare interventions for the prevention, protection, and management of pneumonia among children. The training programme is expected to contribute significantly to improving pediatric healthcare services in the region.
