Training Programme on Scientific Beekeeping Held at Rangat

A two-day training programme on ‘Scientific Beekeeping’ was successfully organized by the Zonal Agriculture Office, Rangat, under the Department of Agriculture, A&N Administration, in collaboration with the National Bee Board, Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare (MoA&FW), New Delhi.

The programme was inaugurated at the Gram Panchayat Hall, Parnashala, by Mr. R. Madhavan, Up-Adhyaksh, Zilla Parishad, North & Middle Andaman, who served as the chief guest. Mr. Balamurugan, Pradhan, Parnashala Panchayat, was the guest of honour.

In his inaugural address, Mr. Madhavan emphasized the importance of beekeeping as a means to enhance rural livelihoods, particularly for the youth and farming community. Mr. Balamurugan also encouraged farmers and Self Help Groups (SHGs) to adopt beekeeping as a sustainable source of income.

Mr. Rakesh Dawar, Subject Matter Specialist from KVK, Nimbudera, shared insights and experiences related to beekeeping practices being implemented at the Krishi Vigyan Kendra. Earlier, Mr. Kanhaya Lal Prasad, Agriculture Officer, Rangat, welcomed the gathering and highlighted the objectives of the training programme.

On the second day, June 26, participants visited the Coconut Plantation at Chitrakut, Rangat, where a hands-on training session and practical demonstrations on beekeeping techniques and management were conducted. Agriculture Assistants Ms. Saraswati Sutradhar, Ms. Babita Bachan, and Ms. Sheena Isac guided the participants through various aspects of scientific beekeeping during the field session.

The training programme aimed to empower farmers with scientific knowledge and practical skills in apiculture, contributing to improved agricultural productivity and livelihood diversification in the region.
