The Directorate of Social Welfare, A&N Administration, has informed that transgender persons residing in the Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands may apply online for issuance of a Transgender Identity Certificate under the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2019 through the designated Transgender Portal of the Government of India.

The Transgender Identity Certificate provides legal recognition of an individual’s gender identity and facilitates access to various welfare schemes, benefits and entitlements offered by the Government.

Eligible individuals have been encouraged to apply through the online portal to avail themselves of the benefits. In case of any assistance required during the application process, applicants may approach the Office of the concerned Deputy Commissioner or the Directorate of Social Welfare.

The Administration has appealed to Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs), community leaders and members of civil society to extend support in spreading awareness about the provision and encouraging eligible persons to avail the benefit.
