In a step aimed at promoting employee welfare and creating a family-friendly workplace, the Directorate of Transport has established a Crèche–cum-Feeding Room at its office in Sri Vijaya Puram. The facility was inaugurated on 11th September 2025 by Ms. Jyoti Kumari, IAS, Secretary (Transport), in the presence of Dr. Jatinder Sohal, Director (Transport), during a simple function attended by a large number of employees.

The initiative seeks to provide a safe and convenient space for young children of employees, particularly benefiting working mothers, thereby supporting better work-life balance and improving attendance.

Speaking at the inauguration, Secretary (Transport) Ms. Jyoti Kumari expressed her appreciation for the initiative, describing it as a “revolutionary step” in employee welfare. She noted that while the beginning may be modest, the facility has the potential to positively impact many families. Highlighting the evolving role of women in the workforce, she emphasised that such measures not only enhance employee productivity but also strengthen family well-being.

“Earlier, when women employees were fewer in number, even basic facilities were lacking. But with changing times, women are now balancing dual responsibilities of home and work, and it is the duty of organisations to support them through such initiatives,” she said.

Director (Transport) Dr. Jatinder Sohal, in his remarks, thanked the Secretary for her continuous guidance and support. He underlined the importance of providing facilities like the crèche, alongside essential amenities such as clean drinking water and hygienic toilets, to ensure employees can work without inconvenience.

Earlier, the program began with a welcome address by the Deputy Director (Transport), while the vote of thanks was proposed by the Assistant Director (Transport).

The establishment of the Crèche–cum-Feeding Room is being hailed as a significant milestone in the Department’s ongoing efforts to create a more inclusive and gender-friendly workplace.
