A free multi-specialty health camp, organized by the Transport Directorate in collaboration with the Andaman & Nicobar Islands Private Practicing Doctors Association (ANIPPDA) and the Rotary Club, received an overwhelming response on January 22, 2025.
The event, held at the premises of the Transport Directorate, was attended by the Director and Assistant Director of the Transport Department, invited doctors, Rotary Club members, and department employees. The dignitaries and medical professionals were warmly welcomed with floral bouquets.
Senior Rotarian Mr. G. Dhinakaran, speaking on behalf of the Rotary Club, encouraged attendees to make full use of the free health services. Mr. Sagar Khurana and other senior members of the Rotary Club were also present on the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, the Assistant Director of the Transport Department highlighted the crucial link between road safety and regular health check-ups, particularly in alignment with Road Safety Week. He stressed that road safety is a shared responsibility, not just for commercial drivers but for all road users. With India leading in road accident fatalities, he urged citizens to strictly adhere to traffic rules and safety measures.
The speakers at the event emphasized the importance of maintaining a healthy body and mind for safe driving. They encouraged attendees to take advantage of the free medical consultations and screenings offered at the camp. Doctors from the Private Practicing Doctors Association provided specialized check-ups in dental, eye, and ENT (ear, nose, and throat) care.
In addition to medical consultations, the event also served as a platform to promote road safety awareness. Speakers reiterated the importance of avoiding overspeeding, abstaining from drinking and driving, wearing helmets, and following traffic signals. Participants were urged to remain vigilant on the roads to prevent accidents and ensure safer travel.
The initiative aimed to enhance the well-being of transport employees, enabling them to continue delivering efficient public services while reinforcing the message of responsible and safe driving.
