As part of the ongoing month-long 76th Van Mahotsav celebrations, the Forest Extension & Publicity Division, Sri Vijaya Puram, organized a tree plantation drive on July 11, 2025, at the Admin Office premises in the Minnie Bay residential area, which houses defence personnel of the quad services.

The event was graced by Captain V. Kashi Raman as the chief guest and Lieutenant Commander Prakhar Sharma as the guest of honour. The plantation drive witnessed enthusiastic participation from defence personnel, forest staff, and workers of the division. A total of 250 seedlings were planted during the programme, reinforcing the shared commitment to environmental protection and sustainability.

Van Mahotsav is an annual tree-planting movement celebrated across India in the first week of July. Launched in 1950 by the then Union Minister for Agriculture, K.M. Munshi, Van Mahotsav aims to create awareness about the importance of forests and trees in maintaining ecological balance and combating climate change. The celebration encourages individuals and communities to plant trees and actively participate in the conservation of nature.

The tree plantation initiative at Minnie Bay not only contributed to the greening of the residential area but also served as a reminder of the crucial role every citizen plays in preserving the environment for future generations.
