In celebration of the International Year of Cooperatives 2025, the Department of Cooperation, in collaboration with the Andaman & Nicobar State Cooperative Union and the Forest Department, organized a Tree Plantation Drive under the theme ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ at the premises of the A&N State Cooperative Union, Teylerabad.
The event was graced by the Secretary (Cooperation)-cum-Registrar of Cooperative Societies (RCS) as the chief guest. It witnessed participation from officials of the Department of Cooperation and Forest Department, Board of Directors, faculty, and trainees of the State Cooperative Union.
During the two-day Van Mahotsav initiative, more than 700 fruit-bearing saplings were planted with the support of the Forest Department.
Addressing the gathering, the Secretary emphasized the importance of tree plantation in maintaining ecological balance and enhancing community well-being. He also reiterated the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s vision of “Sahkar Se Samriddhi” and “Viksit Bharat,” encouraging cooperative societies to integrate environmental consciousness into their core values for a greener and more prosperous future. He highlighted the critical role cooperative societies play in promoting social responsibility and implementing grassroots-level initiatives.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Mr. K.P. Aboo Backer, General Secretary of the A&N State Cooperative Union.
