A delegation from the Andaman and Nicobar Islands met Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi regarding their concerns related to the proposed Great Nicobar Infrastructure (GNI) Project.
According to available information, the delegation included members of the Tribal Council from Nicobar district and TSG Bhasker, Chairman of the Campaign Committee of the Andaman and Nicobar Territorial Congress Committee (ANTCC). Vikrant Bhuria, National Chairman of the All India Adivasi Congress, was also present during the meeting.
During the meeting, the delegation raised its concerns about the potential impact of the project on the environment of Great Nicobar Island and on local tribal communities. The delegation also expressed the view that development activities should be balanced with environmental considerations and the protection of indigenous communities.
Rahul Gandhi heard the points raised and stated that the matter would be taken up at appropriate forums.
A representation outlining the delegation’s views on the project was submitted during the meeting. Rahul Gandhi stated that the concerns would be examined.
He also indicated that he may visit the Andaman and Nicobar Islands in the future to understand the situation on the ground.
