The Chairman of the Campaign Committee of the Andaman and Nicobar Territorial Congress Committee (ANTCC), Mr. TSG Bhasker, has raised concerns over discrepancies between voter lists prepared for the Panchayati Raj Institution (PRI) elections and those used for the Member of Parliament (MP) elections across the Union Territory.
In a letter submitted to the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Mr. Bhasker pointed out that several voters registered in one electoral roll are missing from another, despite residing in the same ward or locality.
“It has come to our notice that many voters listed under the PRI elections are missing from the MP election rolls in the same ward. This is a severe lapse in the voter registration system and must be addressed urgently,” Mr. Bhasker stated in his communication.
He cited instances from areas such as Burmachad and 20 Family in Diglipur Tehsil, where names appear in the MP electoral roll but are absent from the PRI roll. Similar inconsistencies, he added, have also been observed in municipal areas.
The ANTCC leader has offered to submit documented evidence of the anomalies and urged the Election Office to initiate corrective measures at the earliest. With PRI elections scheduled for March 2027, he stressed the need for immediate action to safeguard the voting rights of citizens.
Concluding his letter, Mr. Bhasker appealed to the Chief Electoral Officer to ensure that no voter is disenfranchised due to administrative lapses.
