Mr. TSG Bhasker, Chairman of the Campaign Committee of the Andaman & Nicobar Territorial Congress Committee (ANTCC), has expressed serious concern over the recent killing of a Hindu youth in Bangladesh and the alleged increase in the influx of Bangladeshi nationals into the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, warning that the twin developments could have implications for internal security and communal harmony.

In a formal communication addressed to the Director General of Police, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Mr. Bhasker stated that incidents of violence against minorities in neighbouring countries often generate fear and anxiety, particularly when such incidents coincide with reports of unchecked illegal migration into strategically sensitive regions like the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.

Referring to the killing of a Hindu youth in Bangladesh, Mr. Bhasker described the incident as deeply disturbing. Although the incident occurred outside India, he said its impact could not be viewed in isolation, especially in the context of increasing concerns over undocumented migrants entering the Islands.

The ANTCC leader further pointed out that there has been a noticeable rise in criminal activities in the Islands in recent years, with several cases reportedly involving individuals whose identities and legal status remain unclear. He cautioned that the absence of effective identification, verification, and timely deportation mechanisms could pose a threat to law and order and disturb the long-standing peaceful coexistence among communities in the Islands.

Mr. Bhasker urged the Andaman & Nicobar Police to intensify surveillance, strengthen intelligence gathering, and take prompt action to identify illegal immigrants and initiate deportation proceedings in accordance with the law.

He warned that failure to address the issue decisively could lead to social unrest and adversely affect communal harmony in the future, stressing that preventive action was essential to safeguard peace and security.

Reposing confidence in the police administration, Mr. Bhasker expressed hope that the authorities would take timely and effective measures in the interest of public safety, national security, and communal harmony in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
