Chairman of the Campaign Committee, Andaman and Nicobar Territorial Congress Committee (ANTCC), Mr. TSG Bhasker, has raised serious concerns over the unavailability of critical urological equipment at G.B. Pant Hospital, the premier government medical facility in the islands.
In a letter addressed to the Chief Secretary of the A&N Administration, Mr. Bhasker highlighted that the absence of essential equipment such as the adult cystoscope is forcing patients to seek treatment in private hospitals, where charges can soar up to ₹1.5 lakh. He noted that such high costs are beyond the reach of many islanders, particularly those from economically weaker sections who rely on government healthcare for affordable treatment.
Emphasizing the gravity of the situation, Mr. Bhasker said that the lack of vital medical infrastructure is not only delaying treatment but also causing undue suffering and financial strain for patients across the islands.
He urged the administration to treat the matter with utmost urgency and prioritize the procurement of necessary urological equipment to ensure timely, accessible, and affordable healthcare for all residents.
