The Chairman of the Campaign Committee of the Andaman & Nicobar Territorial Congress Committee (ANTCC), Mr. TSG Bhasker, has expressed concern over the deteriorated condition of National Highway-4 (NH-4) between Baratang and Diglipur.

In a letter addressed to the Lt. Governor of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Mr. Bhasker stated that the highway, under the supervision of the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) since 2017, remains incomplete despite repeated appeals. He described the condition of the road as hazardous for commuters and highlighted several stretches in advanced stages of decay.

According to Mr. Bhasker, portions of the road between Baratang and Rangat and from Billiground to Mayabunder are yet to be completed, while completed stretches between Mayabunder and Diglipur have also suffered damage. He said that many sections have become unsafe for travel, affecting residents and travellers alike.

The ANTCC leader also pointed to the economic and social impact of the highway’s state, noting difficulties faced by transport operators, hotel owners, and residents along the route. He added that the cost of transportation has increased, and in some cases, medical evacuations have been delayed due to the poor road condition.

Mr. Bhasker alleged misuse of public funds in the NH-4 projects and demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry. He further urged the Lt. Governor to take direct action, hold the responsible agency accountable, and bar it from future projects in the Islands.
