The ANTCC Campaign Committee Chairman, Mr. TSG Bhasker, has taken up a significant concern regarding the recent recruitment drive in the Andaman and Nicobar (A&N) Police Department. On Tuesday, Mr. Bhasker penned a letter to the Director General of Police, Mr. Devesh Chandra Srivastava, IPS, urging a reconsideration of the cut-off marks for multiple positions.

The letter highlighted the challenges faced by candidates who appeared for over 300 advertised posts across various categories within the Police Department. Mr. Bhasker emphasised that while the physical tests and examinations were conducted as per schedule, the written exam posed considerable difficulty for many candidates, resulting in numerous individuals failing to meet the benchmark figure.

Expressing concern over the escalating unemployment rates in the islands, Mr. Bhasker underscored the critical need for employment among applicants who have eagerly applied for these vacancies.

Citing the standard operating procedure (SOP) that allows flexibility in adjusting cut-off marks, Mr. Bhasker urged the Director General of Police to consider lowering the cut-off marks for positions such as Sub-Inspector (Executive), Police Radio Operator, and several other vacant posts. This adjustment, he stressed, would enable the recruitment process for the remaining positions to move forward swiftly.

In his plea to the DGP, Mr. Bhasker emphasized the imperative nature of this adjustment, advocating that by revising the cut-off marks, the younger generation in the Islands could secure employment opportunities, aiding in addressing the rising unemployment concerns.
