TSG Foundation has announced the establishment of a medical stay facility at Atlanta Point, located approximately 750 metres from G.B. Pant Hospital in Sri Vijaya Puram. G.B. Pant Hospital is the only tertiary care hospital in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, catering to patients from South Andaman, North and Middle Andaman districts as well as the Nicobar district.
The facility is being constructed from scratch at Atlanta Point, with the design focused on addressing the needs of patients and their attendants. As per the announcement, the building will comprise 12 rooms with attached toilets, along with a pantry equipped with cooking facilities.
At present, patients from North and Middle Andaman and the Nicobar district who travel to Sri Vijaya Puram for medical treatment are often compelled to opt for expensive accommodation due to the lack of decent and affordable stay options in the vicinity of the hospital. Many patients reportedly incur significant expenses on accommodation and food, and some even avoid seeking treatment despite referrals from remote hospitals owing to the absence of affordable lodging facilities.
The TSG Foundation stated that the upcoming facility will offer accommodation to patients from North and Middle Andaman and the Nicobar district at very affordable and minimal rates.
The announcement regarding the medical stay facility was made in Diglipur on Sunday in the presence of the Chairman of TSG Foundation, Mr. G. Bhasker. The initiative has been appreciated by people from various sections of society for addressing a long-standing concern of residents from the remote islands.
Representatives of the TSG Foundation told Nicobar Times that the project is expected to be completed within the next six months, following which the facility will be made operational for the benefit of patients from the remote islands.
