In a significant step towards enhancing tourist safety and emergency preparedness, the Tourist Vehicle Owners Association (TVOA), Andaman & Nicobar Islands, in collaboration with the Fire & Emergency Services of the A&N Police, conducted a comprehensive one-day training programme on fire safety and firefighting techniques.

Held at the Fire Services Headquarters’ training hall and demonstration ground, the session witnessed the participation of around 50 members, including taxi and tourist cab operators actively engaged in tourism-related transport services across the islands and at the Veer Savarkar International Airport.

The training aimed to upgrade service standards and equip ground-level transport operators with essential skills to act as first responders during fire emergencies, ensuring enhanced safety for both tourists and the local community.

The programme was presided over by SI Vijay Bahadur Yadav and Inspector Sushil Kullu from the Fire Department. The training was imparted by PC Kartikey under the overall supervision of Dy. SP (Fire) Ms. Yogita Sharma.

Participants received both theoretical and hands-on training on essential fire safety protocols, including basic life-saving techniques, various fire-fighting methods, and the operation of different types of fire extinguishers and hydrants.

The event commenced with a welcome address by Mr. Ankit Kumar Tripathi, Member Secretary of TVOA, followed by a detailed briefing by Mr. K. Siva Kumar, General Secretary of the Association. The training concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Mr. K. Selvam, President of TVOA.

The initiative marks a proactive effort by the tourism transport sector to ensure that safety remains a top priority in the evolving landscape of Andaman’s travel industry.
