A police team from Humfrygunj Police Station arrested two individuals and seized 55 grams of suspected ganja during a late-night traffic check at Forest Range Office, Manglutan. The operation was led by Sub Inspector Subramani, Station House Officer (SHO) of PS Humfrygunj, along with ASI Tarak Nath, Constable Raja (PC/2734), Constable Silvareous Kindo (PC/2423), and Constable Periyaswamy (PC(D)/3042).
According to FIR, the team was conducting a routine traffic check at around 9:00 PM when they intercepted a Hyundai Aura car. Upon searching the vehicle, they found three packets of suspected ganja wrapped in a white polythene envelope inside a blue-black airbag kept in the car’s trunk. The total weight of the recovered substance was 55 grams.
The occupants of the car were a 35 Year-Old Civil Motor Driver with the Indian Navy, residing at Hasmatabad, and a private worker from Vivekananda Colony, Dhanikari. Both admitted at the spot that the substance was indeed ganja.
Sub-Inspector Subramani immediately informed Mr. Vikas Swami, IPS, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) South Andaman, who instructed him to arrange for independent witnesses and bring the necessary investigation kit. SDPO Swami himself arrived at the scene to oversee the proceedings.
The contraband was weighed in the presence of independent witnesses and SDPO Swami. The packets contained suspected ganja weighing 20 grams, 21 grams, and 14 grams, respectively, totaling 55 grams.
Both accused were arrested on the spot under sections 20(b)(ii)(A) and 29 of the NDPS Act, 1985.
