A two-day training programme on “Integrated Farming System in Animal Husbandry Practices” commenced on 16th February 2026, at the Community Hall, Harminder Bay. The programme is being organised by the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services (AH&VS) in collaboration with the Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA).

The training aims to promote practical and profitable integrated farming models among local farmers. Sessions focused on innovative methods such as duck rearing in fish ponds to derive dual benefits, cattle rearing for supplying manure to crops, and vermicomposting techniques for the production of organic fertilisers. Participants were also introduced to the establishment of small-scale dairy, goatery and piggery units as viable income-generating activities.

Officials explained how integrated farming systems can enhance overall farm productivity by efficiently recycling resources, reducing input costs and diversifying income sources. Farmers were briefed on the economic advantages of combining livestock, fisheries and crop production under a single, well-planned model.

The Department encouraged farmers to take up small-scale dairy, goatery and piggery units and assured them of full support in the form of quality inputs, technical guidance and access to various departmental schemes to ensure sustainable and profitable farming practices.
