A two-day training programme on Scientific Beekeeping began on 25th June 2025, at Gram Panchayat, Ramakrishnapur village in Little Andaman. The initiative is being jointly organized by the Department of Agriculture, Little Andaman, and the High Value Agriculture Development Agency (HVADA) under the National Beekeeping and Honey Mission (NBHM), Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare.
The programme was formally inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Mr. S. Parmanathan, Pramukh of Little Andaman, in the presence of Panchayat Samiti Member Ms. Anita Mondal. Welcoming the participants, Ms. Sreedevi, Assistant Director (Agriculture), underscored the significance of adopting scientific apiculture practices to increase honey production and briefed the gathering about the objectives of the National Beekeeping and Honey Mission.
In her address, Ms. Anita Mondal highlighted the immense potential of apiculture in the region and encouraged local farmers to adopt modern techniques for better outcomes. Mr. Parmanathan appreciated the Department of Agriculture for conducting the training, calling it a valuable initiative to empower and educate aspiring beekeepers.
The training sessions featured interactive technical modules led by experts from the Agriculture Department, who provided participants with practical insights into modern beekeeping methods. Participants also took part in live demonstrations and viewed displays of bee hive accessories and equipment, gaining crucial hands-on experience.
A total of 34 beekeepers enthusiastically participated in the programme, reflecting a growing interest in scientific beekeeping among the local farming community.
